Visitors coming to Savannah are likely to interact with the local populace as they walk around this beautiful and historic city.

Scott Porter, on the other hand, came here to interact with people who lived in Savannah several hundred years ago and reportedly still make the city their home.

Porter, who goes by his last name, is a member of the Tennessee Wraith Chasers ghost-hunting team that also features Chris, Doogie and Brannon. Their investigations are being featured on a new TV series, "Haunted Cities," airing on Destination America. It premiered Aug. 15.

The eight-episode series is so much more than ghost stories, according to Jane Latman, general manager for Destination America.

"It's about places of deep historical significance, where stories of hauntings are passed down over generations," Latman says. "Is it folklore, or is it truth? We want to really find out what's going on in these towns."

The Aug. 29 episode, airing at 10 p.m., features the team in Savannah investigating one of the most haunted spots in the city — Wright Square.

One of four original squares, laid out in 1733, Wright Square also was known as Hanging Square. In one of the most well-known stories, indentured servants (and alleged lovers) Richard White and Alice Riley were accused of killing their tyrannical master, William Wise, and were sentenced to hang in the square. The sentence was carried out against White, but was held up against Riley after she was found to be pregnant. Once she gave birth, Riley followed White's fate.
